“Too fast to be a woman”
The story of Caster Semenya. An Olympic gold medal winning athlete. This is the story of how she was effectively permanently banned from the sports community. It all began when she had just won her gold medal. There were rumors of her being male. Slowly the head management heard and conducted a gender test in secret. Somehow the press found out and it exploded. Due to the tests being inconclusive, she was put on “hold” so they could retest. After appealing this “hold” a few times she was permanently banned from competing in any races. I don’t understand the reasoning behind these decisions. The tech who worked at the gender testing facility had over viewed the inaccuracy’s of these tests, due to the fact they mainly tested for hormone count. They should have not only sent the tests to a third facility but should have reinstated her for competition. A another Ukrainian athlete was banned for the same reasons but by the time she was reinstated, she was not capable of competing with the others. They should have not used the gender testing due to the inaccuracies of the test. In my opinion she should be reinstated as soon as possible because most of these tests were done secretly without her knowlodge.
